Coke, Pepsi & Others banned! Read More…

Dr. Mercola’s newsletter peeked interest with a recent ban on sodas in vending machines on city property in San Francisco. Trends move from West to East … so is this a new trend in curbing obesity and sugar? Sodas have an extremely high rate of sugar, empty nutritional calories in them and are well-known for being hard on the kidneys. All that sugar and caffeine in sodas throws the body into high gear and forces the kidneys to work hard to process the “flight or fight” adrenalin and neutralize the sugar. The same applies to juices that are not 100% juice. So you will see in the report below that juices which are not 100% juice are equally ban. What is a better alternative to all sodas? Try lemon and water, green tea, add some fresh mint. For a really cooling drink, throw some sliced cucumbers (remove skin) in a blender, add fresh lime juice, mint and swirl. This has been an extremely hot summer and heat is hard on the internal organs, especially the liver. So, cool down with healthy options!

From Dr. Mercola’s Newsletter ~ Issue 1489
Under an executive order from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, sodas such as Coke, Pepsi and Fanta Orange are no longer allowed in vending machines on city property. Some of their diet counterparts are still allowed.

The ban includes non-diet sodas, sports drinks and artificially sweetened water.

Juice must be 100 percent fruit or vegetable juice with no added sweeteners, and diet sodas can be no more than 25 percent of the items offered.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

“It’s all part of Newsom’s effort to combat obesity and improve San Franciscans’ health, similar to a national effort being championed by first lady Michelle Obama.

The mayor’s administration points to studies linking soda to obesity, including a UCLA one released last year that found adults who drink at least one soft drink a day are 27 percent more likely to be obese than those who don’t”.

Keeping Cool in Summer’s Heat!

This summer is breaking heat records all over the place. Here’s a couple cool ways to keep kool!
-Cucumbers cool the body down and are perfect in a salad or by themselves in a little oil and vinegar or your favorite dressing.
-Watermelon is sweet, cooling, refreshing and cleansing to the kidneys as well as providing fluids for the body. Watermelon is best enjoyed with breakfast or early afternoon. Skip eating at night which may keep you up with bathroom breaks.
-Baby Powder? Johnson & Johnson has come out with several new dusting powders that are calming like Lavender & Chamomile and Cooling Cucumber Melon and just as good for baby as adults.
-Spritz! Fill a spray bottle with water and add your favorite essentail oil - lavender, rose, ylang ylang, etc., and spritz your face, neck, arms.
-Lemon or Lime and water - preferably filtered water from a Brita, Pur filter or bottled Spring Water - drink throughout the day. Using lemon or lime in water has a tangey taste and a perfect way to break the coffee habit. Lemon & Lime are also calming to the nervous system.
-Caution! Do not leave bottled water in a hot car and then drink. Do not put plastic bottles in the freezer and take to the beach. Reports show that the plastic chemical makeup can leak into a hot bottle and also a bottle that has been frozen. Don’t invite toxins into your body.
-Gratitude! Express gratitude for the strength, warmth and life force energy of the sun that enables crops to grow and the ocean to warm and the beauty of summer to nourish our being on every level. Allow that gratitude to sink to the deepest regions of your body, mind, heart and soul. Summer blessings ~ Love Light Lady!
